Entry level to second jobber level. Must be articulate, confident, numerate, marketing and IT literate and work well in a team. Someone who enjoys being hands on with data, has a good understanding of how databases work and the difference between a flat file and a relational database. Someone who can use software tools such as Access, SQL and FileMaker Pro for example and who can learn and quickly be up and running with new tools as and when required. A positive, proactive attitude and strong communication and time management skills are essential.

The scope and remuneration for this role depends on the size of the organisation, and whether direct marketing is of central strategic importance. Candidates have experience in hands on database management and manipulation, and will have project managed the specification and design of a database system from scratch. Candidates are technically literate and numerate but are not programmers. They are essentially marketers who will be comfortable bridging the gap between IT and marketing teams.

Successful candidates will be proven team leaders and vendor managers who are commercially driven and can confidently manage the financial aspects of their own division. Above all, candidates will have a keen technical awareness and feel very comfortable working with both business and IT teams to achieve a common goal - the provision of data-based business and marketing solutions. Previous experience of setting up integrated customer marketing database systems is essential, as are first-rate strategic capabilities.
